The Last Bit of Summer: The Prof. Hacker Week in Review

Although the fall semester begins sometime in August or early September, fall doesn’t really get here until Tuesday’s autumnal equinox. How did ProfHacker spend the last week of summer?

• On Monday, consecutive posts suggested, first, not to let productivity worries stress you out (Nels), and second, it would be clever to know more precisely where your time goes (Natalie). Hmm . . .
• George explained the thinking behind the ProfHacker 101 series
• Lots of choices this week: choose a web browser (Julie), or an approach to social media (George), or, probably most important, lunch (Billie)
• In the classroom, Amy answers the question, “Why do I have to learn these digital tools in this class?,” and Billie discusses the implications of thinking of a teaching practice as “teacher-centered” or “student-centered.”
• Tech support: Ethan explains what to do when Blackboard goes down, Amy describes her use of DevonThink and WordPress, and George announces a series on scheduling and surveying others–without e-mail
• To be healthy, Nels suggests not comparing yourself to others, while I managed to write an entire post about H1N1 without directly saying “wash your hands.”
