I use Camtasia and Adobe Captivate. Captivate allows one to make interactive tutorials with ease. Camtasia has a PowerPoint Add-on that makes it easy to voice over any PowerPoint and produce in a variety of different formats. I use it in conjunction with a tablet PC to create video lectures that students watch before they come to class. I no longer lecture in class. We do what would have been done as homework in class. Additionally, we do graded board work and other in-class activities. (I teach math and statistics.)

If you want another free encoder option for Windows, there's always Windows Media Encoder.

To get around playback issues across OS's, I use Vimeo.

Cory did not use ScreenSteps ($40 regular, $80 pro), GC, but that seems like an interesting application. I think he just did screengrabs using the built-in function provided by the Mac OS X. Screenflick and Screenium look interesting, too. Thanks!

Snapz Pro is nice. But so is Screenflick (Mac, $25) and Screenium (Mac, $29).

PS: Did you use ScreenSteps for this article?

PPS: A good way to see what apps are out there for Macs is to look on MacUpdate, BTW.

Good call, Laura!

I have a little experience with iShowU ($30 for the regular version, $60 for the "pro" version ) on Jason's recommendation, and I've found it to be pretty good.

I have no experience with Snapz Pro ($70), though I've heard good things about it.
