It snowed on Thursday here at ProfHacker North and it’s about to snow a bit again tonight–and it’s not even October 20! And the oil company is here fixing the heat, which the plumbers apparently broke this summer. Sigh. Before the weather intervened, it was a good week at ProfHacker:
- Billie argued that it might be more effective to record, rather than write, comments on student papers, and Jeff suggested there are sometimes reasons *not* to set up a faculty mentoring program.
- Amy and Alex launched a new series about how the various Google tools work. I wondered what would prove the utility, rather than just awesomeness, of iPods or iPhones in the classroom. We looked at tools: George gave an overview of ScreenSteps, for creating tutorials, I glanced at at Screenr, for making quick screencasts and distributing ‘em via Twitter, and Julie compared SideWiki, Reframe It, and Diigo.
- Natalie explained how the Getting Things Done concept of “contexts” applies to academic work, while I urged people to fake it, and explained how to set up your paper-based calendar.
- Standard posts: Sweet potatoes were for lunch, and I posted a link to Chris Rock for the weekend.

if you are prof hacker north…does that make me prof hacker way north?
The thing to remember is that I grew up in the South . . . when it snows, I think that we’re living in Siberia.
